My Extreme Experience

It was a beautiful sunny day and the streets were lined with traffic.  My car smelt like freshly sprayed hairspray and left over pizza as I pulled up to my seventh set of red lights.  As I looked in the revision mirror and applied last minute lip gloss, I couldn’t help but feel a rush of excitement.  I was about to enter the on sight recording of ABC’s Extreme Home Makeover!

This TV show just so happen to be one of my favorite TV shows, and I couldn’t believe they were actually in Mobile Alabama!!!  They’d moved in to town to build a brand new home for a special family, and I’d been asked to shoot some behind the scenes footage for the building company - Heritage Homes!  I thought “this will be an eye opening experience”…but I had no idea what was about to unfold.

Over the next three days I watched as five framing crews, four sheet rocking companies and two plumbing crews rallied together to build a brand new home for the Gaudet family.  Hundreds of bricks went flying through the air as two different masonry companies worked from different sides of the house.  I made sure to stay clear out of the way with my hard hat on!

I was amazed at how many people from the community came to help! Churches and community groups came from all over town.  The excitement in the air was contagious and the energy and enthusiasm everybody shared was incredible.  Before we knew it, the new house was built IN LESS THAN ONE WEEK and this family’s life was changed forever!

That week I was reminded of what can be achieved when people pull together to make something happen.  I felt so blessed to be able to witness the transformation of the Gaudet’s family’s home, and to see the difference it made in their lives.

I’ll never forget it!
